Texas Auto Insurance Requirements — What You Actually Need

Texas minimum liability limits, what they do not cover, and the optional coverages advisors almost always recommend adding.

Texas law requires 30/60/25 liability coverage. That protects the other driver — not you. Here is what most Texas drivers actually need.

The state minimum: 30/60/25

$30k bodily injury per person, $60k per accident, $25k property damage. It only pays claims made against you.

Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist

Roughly 1 in 8 Texas drivers is uninsured. UM/UIM pays your medical bills and repairs when the at-fault driver cannot.

Collision and Comprehensive

Collision pays for your car in a wreck; comprehensive covers hail, theft, flood, and animal strikes — critical in Texas storm country.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Covers medical bills and lost wages regardless of fault. Carriers must offer it — you must reject it in writing to opt out.
